Head of Technology Development

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

A well-established financial technology organization is seeking a Head of Technology Development to lead the design, delivery, and evolution of core business platforms. This role is suited to a hands-on technology leader with strong architectural depth, proven people leadership, and experience building scalable systems in regulated environments.

The successful candidate will oversee software engineering teams, shape architecture strategy, and ensure the reliable delivery of strategic applications that support critical business capabilities. The role involves close collaboration with business and technology stakeholders to translate complex requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

Responsibilities

Lead the technology development function in Zurich, including engineering leadership, delivery planning, team development, and technical governance.
Define and evolve architecture strategy for core business applications and platform services.
Work closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into practical technology solutions.
Oversee the full software delivery lifecycle, including requirements, design, testing, deployment, release management, and production support.
Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams in a dynamic and regulated environment.
Promote agile delivery, CI/CD, test automation, platform reliability, and deployment best practices.
Provide hands-on technical leadership for integrations, performance-sensitive systems, and scalable services.
Ensure strong alignment between business teams and engineering teams to support ongoing platform evolution and innovation.

Required background

Significant experience in a senior software engineering leadership role such as Head of Development, Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, or Software Architect within financial services, fintech, or another highly regulated environment.
Proven record of delivering complex, business-critical applications in enterprise settings.
Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, distributed systems, integration patterns, and software delivery practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage stakeholders, and drive delivery in high-pressure environments.
Experience improving engineering processes, automation, and operational stability.

Technical profile

Strong backend development experience, ideally including Scala and Java.
Familiarity with distributed and service-based architectures, APIs, concurrent systems, and integration design.
Experience with modern engineering tools and practices, including version control, build pipelines, automation, relational or non-relational databases, Linux, and scripting.
Exposure to investment technology, transaction processing platforms, market-facing systems, or data-intensive applications is beneficial.
