Understand Tech

🇺🇸New York, US

Understand Tech builds AI applications that do real work inside the enterprise - not chat-with-your-docs wrappers, but deep, vertical systems that automate complex professional workflows end to end, and that serious teams depend on to be exact.

A few of our flagship apps:

  • TCG turns technical standards and specifications into structured, traceable, automation-ready test suites. It runs a real pipeline - section-aware requirement extraction with full traceability, template-locked test generation, hybrid quality scoring, and executable script export aligned to a team's own conventions. Built in partnership with GSMA.
  • Workbench points at any GitHub repo and produces a merge-ready Pull Request in minutes - documentation, executable tests that actually compile, a multi-layer security scan, and a deep frontier-model security pass that traces each finding from untrusted input to the vulnerable sink. Web UI for everyone, CLI for developers.
  • DEP transforms a semiconductor manufacturer's product documentation into instant, sourced selling capability across their entire channel - FAE-grade technical answers, competitor BOM displacement on demand, and branded sales decks generated in minutes, all grounded in official docs with confidentiality-tiered access.

These sit alongside a growing library - over 10 apps today, on the way to 30 by year-end - spanning standards, security certification, compliance, accounting, and more. Same platform underneath, same promise: AI that makes enterprise teams more productive, whatever their function.

We deliver the full stack: the deployment layer (on-premises AI-in-a-Box, private cloud, or managed SaaS), the platform underneath (LLMs, assistants, APIs, workflow orchestration, connected to the enterprise's own data and processes), an App Builder to compose custom apps, and the library of ready-to-use applications on top.

What makes us different: everything can run fully air-gapped. Sovereignty and security aren't features we bolt on - they're the foundation, which is why customers like tier-1 semiconductor vendors, global standards bodies, and regulated firms in finance and accounting trust us with work they can't put in anyone else's cloud.

We're scaling fast - the portfolio is tripling this year - and we're hiring a Head of Product to drive execution across it and partner with the CEO on shipping what our customers actually need.

What you'll do

You'll be the person who makes sure the right things get built, in the right order, and feel great to use. You'll partner directly with the CEO - who owns product vision, roadmap, and strategic customers - and turn that direction into shipped reality with our engineering team.

Concretely, you'll:

  • Drive day-to-day execution with the engineering team. Own the backlog, sequence the work, keep tickets moving, unblock fast, and hold the team to delivery. This is the heart of the role - it's where most of your time goes.
  • Translate vision and customer needs into clear specs. Take the CEO's roadmap and customer insights and turn them into work the team can build against - unambiguous, prioritized, ready to go.
  • Own the user experience. You bring product taste and customer understanding to every app we ship. You make sure what we build is intuitive - especially for non-technical users in vertical industries who expect things to just work.
  • Partner with Engineering, AI, and SecDevOps. You'll work daily with our technical leads. You set product direction and priorities; they own how it gets built. That partnership only works if you're credible, clear, and assertive.
  • Help shape prioritization across a broad portfolio. With 10+ apps growing to 30, focus is everything. You'll help us decide what matters now, what waits, and what we say no to.
  • Bring customer reality into the product. You'll join customer conversations when product depth is needed, and make sure what you learn shows up in what we build.

Who we're looking for

Background

You've spent 8–12 years working with technical and industrial customers - and shipping product. The exact title matters less than the experience. Strong backgrounds include:

  • Product manager, product line manager, or technical program manager at a semiconductor company, OEM, or industrial systems vendor
  • Working group lead or senior technical contributor at a standards body
  • Product manager or solutions lead at a deep-tech or enterprise software company selling into technical, regulated, or industrial sectors
  • Product manager at an AI or enterprise software company - provided you've operated meaningfully with the kinds of customers we serve

If you've shipped real products, worked daily with engineering teams to get them out the door, and you understand the world our customers live in, we want to talk.

You should be:

  • An execution machine. You're at your best driving a team to ship - sequencing work, unblocking, keeping momentum, holding the line on quality and timelines. You make teams faster, not slower.
  • Credible and assertive with engineers. You don't need to write code, but you need to earn the respect of strong engineers, AI specialists, and DevOps. You ask sharp questions, push back when needed, and hold your ground - without friction for its own sake.
  • A real product mind with taste. You hear a customer describe their process and instinctively see the app we should build. You care about UX and sweat the details that make a product feel effortless.
  • AI-fluent. You understand what today's AI can and can't do - LLM capabilities, limits, and the patterns (assistants, RAG, agents, workflows). Enough to make smart product calls on feasibility and value.
  • Customer-energized. You like being in front of customers, you're good at it, and you bring back insight that sharpens the product.
  • A strong communicator. Clear in writing, sharp in person, comfortable challenging your team and your CEO constructively.
  • English fluent. French is a plus, but not required.

What this role asks of you - worth knowing upfront

We're a startup building hard things with a small, young team. We want to be upfront about what that means day to day, so you can decide if it's the right fit:

  • This is an on-site role in the Montpellier area. We work side by side - that's how we move fast and build well together.
  • Our team and customers are global. Some evening calls with the US, some early ones with Asia, and occasionally a deployment that lands on a weekend when a customer needs us. We're reasonable about it - but when it matters, we show up.
  • Travel is part of it. Roughly 1–2 weeks per quarter for customer visits, conferences, and partner meetings.
  • Things move fast. Priorities shift, the portfolio is growing quickly, and the role will keep evolving. If you love that kind of pace and ownership, you'll thrive here.

If this sounds like the kind of environment you've been looking for, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll get

  • A real seat at the table. You'll partner directly with the CEO and work as a peer to our Engineering, AI, SecDevOps, and Marketing leads. You'll help shape the company, not slot into someone else's machine.
  • Meaningful equity. This is a key hire, and you'll hold equity that reflects it. We want partners who win when the company wins.
  • Attractive compensation, calibrated to your profile. We'll discuss openly with serious candidates.
  • Customers who matter. Tier-1 semiconductor vendors, global standards bodies, regulated firms in finance and accounting. Real problems, real budgets, real impact when we ship.
  • A product surface that's exploding. From 10 apps to 30 this year, across a real platform with serious technical depth. You'll never be bored.
  • The chance to build something that lasts. Sovereign, secure enterprise AI is one of the defining infrastructure questions of the next decade. We're early, and we're building for the long game.
