Head of PMO (Netherlands based)
Our client is a fast-growing, highly innovative medtech scale-up transforming medication management across Europe. With operations in the Benelux, UK and Scandinavia, the organisation combines technology, healthcare and data to improve patient safety and quality of life. Operating within an international matrix structure, the company is entering its next phase of rofessionalisation and rapid growth in a fast-evolving healthcare environment.
The company has scaled to approximately 500 employees across seven countries. The leadership team has been significantly strengthened recently, and the ambition is clear. What is missing is one person to bring structure, prioritisation and governance to a project landscape that has outgrown its current setup.
The Role
There is no PMO today. There is no portfolio governance. A large number of parallel initiatives compete for the same resources, from international market expansion to operational transformation and systems rationalisation. As Head of PMO, you will build the PMO from scratch. You will design how projects are selected, structured, staffed and governed across the entire organisation. You will sit close to the executive team and act as the bridge between strategy and execution. This is, first and foremost, a role for a senior project manager with the attitude and drive to build. We care less about a flawless CV than about mindset: the will to build, to grow as the function does, and a clear bias for getting things done. In a fast-changing organisation, we are looking for someone who brings structure and momentum in equal measure.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish Governance: Design portfolio dashboards, steerco structures and decision-making frameworks from a blank page.
- Drive Prioritisation: Own enterprise-wide sequencing across seven countries, with the authority to recommend pausing initiatives that lack capacity or impact.
- Execution Oversight & Performance Management: Maintain a holistic view of the transformation portfolio, tracking progress, risks, resource allocation, interdependencies and benefits, and provide concise, executive-quality reporting that enables informed, timely decision-making.
- Player-Coach Leadership: In addition to portfolio-level leadership, personally lead a small number of high-impact, cross-functional initiatives, setting the standard for execution and delivery, while coaching and building a team of project professionala
- System Adoption: Ensure the genuine adoption of ERP (NetSuite) and CRM (Salesforce) trajectories, focusing on behavioural change rather than just technical go-lives.
Who you are
- Experience: 7–10+ years in senior project management or consulting, ideally having already set up or led a PMO.
- Leadership: You have a proven track record of leading high-performing project management teams.
- Project Management: You have experience leading complex projects, preferably in a technical or manufacturing environment.
- Proven Builder: You have built a governance function from scratch, not just optimised an existing one.
- International Reach: You have operated in complex, multi-stakeholder international environments across borders.
- Complexity Navigator: You are comfortable operating in fast-changing, ambiguous environments and building structure where little exists.
Beyond the CV
- Diplomatic Challenger: You push back on unrealistic expectations with tact and data, never confrontational for its own sake
- Pragmatic Over Perfect: You favour 80% solutions delivered fast over 100% solutions delivered late
- Calm Under Pressure: You bring composure when priorities collide; you are the person the leadership team looks to during “creative chaos".
- Structured Yet Agile: You create order without turning the company into a bureaucr
- acy.People-First Leader: You build teams people want to join. You invest in development and engagement, not just deliverables.
- Commercially Aware: You articulate project impact in revenue and margin, not just milestones and RAG statuses.
