Where and how we work?
We currently have teams based in Malta, Lisbon (Portugal), Sofia (Bulgaria), London (UK) and Bucharest (Romania). Our hybrid work model encourages regular in-person collaboration while also allowing flexibility to work remotely.
Long story short, you will
The Head of Legal & Compliance is responsible for overseeing and advising on the legal and compliance requirements across WA Technology, reporting to the Group’s CLCO. The Head of Legal & Compliance acts as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters, providing practical, risk-based advice and supporting the business in meeting its legal, regulatory and governance obligations.
All the responsibilities we will trust you with:
Scope of Legal services,
- Advising on commercial, corporate and operational legal matters, ensuring alignment with the Group’s risk appetite;
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and related legal documentation;
- Developing, maintaining, and updating legal templates, precedents and internal legal documentation frameworks;
- Providing legal support in relation to corporate governance matters, acquisitions, divestitures and other strategic transactions;
- Advising on key legal areas including online gaming, data protection, AML/CFT, intellectual property, IT, employment, corporate, commercial and property law;
- Supporting the development and maintenance of an intellectual property protection and management strategy for the Group;
- Managing and coordinating external legal counsel and specialist advisors as required;
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and advising on their impact on the Group;
- Preparing legal updates, reports, and recommendations for senior management and regulators, as required.
Scope of Compliance services
- Designing, implementing and maintaining compliance frameworks, policies and procedures across multiple jurisdictions;
- Providing pragmatic, risk-based compliance advice to internal stakeholders;
- Maintaining and updating the Group’s risk register with responsible stakeholders;
- Managing the Company’s regulatory licence and software certification portfolios;
- Applying for new licences and certifications and maintaining the Group’s licence portfolio;
- Supporting the development and ongoing review of the Company’s risk management framework;
- Establishing and overseeing compliance control systems, monitoring activities and remediation actions;
- Developing and delivering compliance training to support awareness and adherence across the business;
- Liaising with regulators, external compliance advisors and service providers;
- Monitoring regulatory changes, trends, enforcement mechanisms and industry best practices and advising on required actions;
- Preparing compliance reports for senior management and regulatory submissions as required.
****Your areas of knowledge and expertise :
- Minimum 8 years’ experience as an in-house Legal Counsel within the iGaming industry (preferably B2B) or a similarly regulated environment;
- Strong knowledge of gaming, corporate, commercial, employment, IT, AML/CFT and IP laws and regulations;
- Solid understanding of AML/CFT frameworks and requirements and due diligence processes for individuals and businesses;
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments in regulated and regulating markets;
- Proven experience in contract drafting, review and negotiation of complex commercial matters with third parties;
- Experience handling claims, mediation proceedings, opposition proceedings and other regulatory and litigious actions;
- Experience handling audits and exposure to licence application processes, certifications and audit processes;
- Advanced level of spoken and written English, with proficiency in other languages considered a plus;
- Proficiency in Jira, Google Suite, MS Office and Claude AI or similar models;
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset;
- Business-oriented, with a collaborative and structured approach to problem-solving;
- Willingness to travel on demand.
