Our client, a well-established and growing Corporate Services Provider, is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Client Accounting to lead its accounting function. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a qualified accounting professional who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional people management and client relationship skills.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing the delivery of high-quality accounting and financial reporting services to a diverse portfolio of clients, while driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement across the department.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Accounts Managers, Senior Accounting Officers, and Accounting Officers.
  • Foster a high-performance culture through coaching, regular performance reviews, and professional development initiatives.
  • Manage team resources and workload allocation to ensure client deliverables and internal deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.

Financial Reporting & Operational Management

  • Oversee the preparation, review, and timely delivery of financial statements for a varied portfolio of local and international clients.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting records, reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
  • Manage client audit engagements and act as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Oversee payroll processing, VAT compliance, and other statutory reporting obligations where required.

Compliance, Governance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all accounting deliverables comply with IFRS, GAAP, GAPSME, local tax legislation, and statutory filing requirements.
  • Develop, strengthen, and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
  • Ensure adherence to professional and ethical standards at all times.

Client Relationship Management & Business Growth

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and senior point of contact for key clients.
  • Build strong, long-term client relationships by delivering tailored financial and accounting solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery and support the growth of existing client relationships through cross-selling of additional services.
  • Collaborate closely with the firm's Tax, Audit, and Company Secretarial teams to provide a seamless client experience.

Innovation & Strategic Development

  • Keep abreast of developments in accounting standards, taxation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Champion process improvements and digital transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Evaluate and optimise accounting systems and technologies to support business growth and service excellence.
  • Maintain professional memberships and fulfil Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements in line with Maltese regulatory standards.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, ACCA qualification, or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification.
  • Holder of a valid accounting warrant or eligibility to practise within the Maltese regulatory framework.

Experience

  • Significant experience in a senior accounting leadership position.
  • Proven track record within a Corporate Services Provider (CSP), accounting practice, or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams, client portfolios, and complex financial reporting requirements.

  • Strong technical expertise in IFRS, GAAP, GAPSME, tax compliance, and statutory reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Outstanding leadership and people management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the confidence to present technical concepts clearly to clients and non-financial audiences.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and regulatory deadlines.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a client-centric approach.
