Role Overview
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – BFSI is responsible for defining, governing, and executing the technology vision for banking, financial services, and insurance platforms. The role ensures secure, scalable, compliant, and high‑performance technology ecosystems across core banking, payments, digital channels, data platforms, and regulatory systems, while driving innovation and digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & BFSI Transformation
- Define and execute the BFSI technology strategy aligned to business, regulatory, and market needs.
- Drive digital banking, payments modernization, core system transformation, and cloud adoption.
- Lead transformation across retail banking, corporate banking, lending, cards, payments, capital markets, and insurance.
- Act as a trusted technology advisor for executive leadership and key client stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Computer Science
- 18–25+ years of progressive experience in BFSI technology leadership
- Prior experience as CTO / Chief Architect / VP Technology / Head of Engineering – BFSI
- Experience in IT services, product companies, or bank captive units is highly desirable
Core Banking & BFSI Platforms
- Provide strategic oversight of core banking systems (Temenos, Finacle, Equation, Avaloq, Flexcube, etc.).
- Govern payments platforms (SWIFT, SEPA, RTGS, NEFT, UPI, ISO 20022, cards, wallets).
- Drive modernization of legacy mainframe / monolithic systems to cloud‑native platforms.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and resilience of mission‑critical BFSI platforms.
Architecture, Engineering & DevOps
- Own enterprise and solution architecture for microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native platforms.
- Establish engineering standards across DevSecOps, CI/CD, SRE, containerization, and automation.
- Ensure architectural consistency across products, channels, and integration layers.
Security, Risk & Regulatory Compliance
- Own enterprise cybersecurity strategy aligned to BFSI regulations and risk frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with RBI / SEBI / IRDAI, PCI‑DSS, SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR, data residency laws.
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Audit teams to proactively manage technology risk.
- Drive secure-by-design and compliance-by-design engineering practices.
Data, Analytics & AI
- Govern data platforms supporting risk, fraud, AML, credit scoring, customer analytics, and reporting.
- Drive adoption of AI/ML and Generative AI for risk, operations, personalization, and efficiency.
- Ensure regulatory‑grade data governance, lineage, quality, and reporting.
Delivery & Operations Excellence
- Oversee large‑scale program delivery, modernization initiatives, and production operations.
- Define KPIs for availability, latency, defect leakage, security posture, and cost optimization.
- Ensure strong incident, problem, and change management practices for BFSI systems.
People, Leadership & Ecosystem
- Build and lead large global teams across engineering, architecture, platforms, and operations.
- Drive talent strategy including skills transformation, hiring, upskilling, and leadership development.
- Lead partnerships with hyperscalers, fintechs, product vendors, and system integrators.
- Represent the organization with regulators, clients, partners, and industry forums.

- Deep understanding of banking products, payments, lending, insurance, and regulatory frameworks
