Consultant - AI Engineer

Position Summary

At HCA Healthcare, we are committed to providing our patients and care providers with the highest quality healthcare services. HCA’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (DT&I) team delivers a step change in that direction through clinically led integration of digital and AI technologies into care.

As a Consultant - AI Engineer, you will be a technical contributor, supporting the development and implementation of innovative Agentic AI solutions for HCA. You will work closely with other AI engineers, product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable Gen AI products. Your technical skills and learning agility will be essential in building assigned AI capabilities, following engineering best practices, and supporting impactful AI solutions.

This is an opportunity to build practical AI capabilities that improve healthcare workflows at enterprise scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the technical design, development and implementation of AI-powered applications and services, with a specific focus on Agentic AI, aligned with strategic business priorities.
  • Develop and test assigned AI agents, prompt flows, API services, tool integrations, and workflow automations.
  • Work with senior consultants, technical product managers and other stakeholders to translate product requirements and user stories into technical specifications and actionable development tasks.
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI agents to automate tasks, improve decision-making, and enhance user experience.
  • Integrate AI agents into existing systems and workflows, ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing with team members, fostering a culture of learning and innovation in Agentic AI.
  • Follow engineering best practices for development process, ensuring adherence to coding standards, testing protocols, and deployment procedures.
  • Support the implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure AI infrastructure components.
  • Troubleshoot defects, integration issues, model behavior concerns, and production support items.
  • Evaluate and prototype emerging AI technologies and frameworks to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay current with advancements in AI and Agentic AI and continuously build technical capability.
  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration across HCA business functions, IT, and enterprise product teams.
  • Apply responsible and ethical AI practices into solution development, including guardrails, evaluation checks, and human-in-the-loop considerations.
  • Participate in code reviews, team discussions, documentation, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”
  • Typical work hours can vary depending on workload and project deliverables.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering, data science or related field.

Required

Master’s degree in computer science engineering, data science or related field.

Preferred

6-8 years of software development experience with 2+ years in AI/ML focused on Agentic AI.

Required

Experience in AI/ML, Gen AI, LLM applications.

Preferred

Experience in APIs, Automation, Data engineering, Cloud engineering or related technical field.

Preferred

Licenses, Certification & Training Requirements:

Certifications in AI/ML, Agentic AI, Gen AI, responsible AI, cloud-native development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in developing and deploying generative AI technologies, and Agentic AI development, including Python or similar languages.
  • Good understanding of software development - best practices including APIs, Git, coding standards, testing, deploying, debugging and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Gen AI, LLMs, Agentic AI, AI agents, prompt engineering, RAG concepts, and model evaluation approaches.
  • Experience with cloud-based AI platforms and services (e.g. GCP, Azure).
  • Ability to build and support integrations across systems, tools, APIs, data sources, and enterprise workflows under guidance.
  • Observability, monitoring, logging, security, privacy, and compliance considerations for AI-enabled systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, curiosity, and learning agility.
  • Passion for AI and its potential to transform healthcare.
