Senior Consultant - AI Engineer

Position Summary

HCA’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (DT&I) team delivers a step change in that direction through clinically led integration of digital and AI technologies into care.

As a Senior Consultant – AI Engineer, you will be a senior technical contributor supporting the development and implementation of Agentic AI solutions for HCA. You will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable Gen AI products. Your deep technical expertise and engineering skills will be essential in supporting design decisions, building production-ready AI capabilities, guiding the team, ensuring adherence to best practices, and delivering impactful AI solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical design, development, and implementation of assigned enterprise-grade Agentic AI solutions aligned to strategic business priorities.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of assigned technical workstreams, including solution design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical direction for Agentic AI systems, partnering closely with product managers, data scientists, security, and enterprise architecture teams to translate business requirements into scalable, production-ready solutions.
  • Design, develop and maintain AI agents, prompt flows, API services, tool integrations, and workflow automations that integrate with existing platforms and workflows.
  • Apply engineering best practices for AI development, including coding standards, model evaluation methodologies, testing protocols, CI/CD pipelines, deployment procedures, observability, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Implement scalable, secure, and reliable AI infrastructure components, supporting high availability, performance, and adherence to enterprise privacy and regulatory standards.
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI agents to automate tasks, improve decision-making, and enhance user experience.
  • Integrate AI agents into existing systems and workflows, ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance.
  • Serve as a hands-on technical contributor and subject matter resource in Agentic AI, supporting complex implementations, resolving technical challenges, and mentoring and supporting the team.
  • Participate in architectural decisions for AI agent orchestration, tool integration, and system interoperability.
  • Evaluate and prototype emerging AI technologies and frameworks, making data-driven recommendations to improve system performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.
  • Embed responsible and ethical AI practices into solution design, including guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and human-in-the-loop considerations.
  • Stay current with advancements in AI and Agentic AI and continuously build and enhance system capabilities and development efficiency.
  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration across HCA business functions, IT, and enterprise product teams.
  • Participate in code reviews, team discussions, documentation, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”
  • Typical work hours can vary depending on workload and project deliverables.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering, data science or related field.

Required

Master’s degree in computer science engineering, data science or related field.

Preferred

8-11 years of software development experience with 3+ years in AI/ML, Agentic AI, LLM, Gen AI.

Required

Experience in APIs, Automation, Data engineering, Cloud engineering or related technical field.

Preferred

Licenses, Certification & Training Requirements:

Certifications in AI/ML, Agentic AI, Gen AI, responsible AI, cloud-native development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience developing and deploying Agentic AI solutions and AI agents using Python or similar languages.
  • Working knowledge of Gen AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG concepts, orchestration frameworks and model evaluation approaches.
  • Deep understanding of software development best practices including APIs, Git, coding standards, testing, deployment, debugging and documentation.
  • Experience with cloud-based AI platforms and services (e.g. GCP, Azure).
  • Ability to build reliable integrations across systems, tools, APIs, data sources, and enterprise workflows.
  • Observability, monitoring, logging, security, privacy, and compliance considerations for AI-enabled systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, curiosity, and technical ownership skills.
  • Ability to mentor others while remaining hands-on in design, development, testing, and troubleshooting.
