About StitchFin
StitchFin is building the next generation of healthcare revenue cycle infrastructure with AI at the core. We create products and platform capabilities that help providers recover revenue, automate labor-intensive workflows, and turn healthcare's most complex operational challenges into a strategic advantage.
This is an opportunity to join early and shape a category-defining company at the intersection of healthcare, software, operations, and AI.
The Role
As an Applied AI Engineer, you'll take models and turn them into products that hold up against the complexity of real healthcare operations. You'll work end-to-end: framing a workflow problem, designing the system, building the pipelines and agents, evaluating quality, and shipping to production where mistakes have real financial and operational consequences. This is hands-on engineering work close to the product.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and ship AI-powered features across the revenue cycle.
- Build agentic AI systems that can handle complete multi-step workflows with appropriate human oversight and guardrails.
- Develop and integrate voice AI capabilities.
- Stand up retrieval, prompting, and fine-tuning pipelines using LLMs and other ML models, and choose the right tool for each problem rather than defaulting to one approach.
- Build rigorous evaluation harnesses, offline and online.
- Move features from prototype to production: monitoring, latency and cost optimization, fallback behavior, and the unglamorous reliability work that real systems need.
- Collaborate with domain experts to encode revenue cycle logic correctly, and design human-in-the-loop experiences for cases the system shouldn't handle alone.
- Research and develop underlying model capabilities.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 2–3 years building and shipping ML or LLM-powered features in production.
- Strong programming skills in Python (and comfort with at least one other language).
- Hands-on experience with modern LLMs, RAG, evaluation, and integrating model APIs into real applications.
- Solid software fundamentals: APIs, data pipelines, testing, version control, and deploying services in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- A product mindset, you care about whether the thing works for users and the business, not just whether the model benchmark looks good.
- Comfort with ambiguity and messy, real-world data.
Skills We'd Love to See
These are the differentiators that map directly to what we're building. You don't need all of them, but strength in any is a real plus:
- Agentic AI, experience building agent systems, including guardrails and human-in-the-loop design.
- Voice AI, experience with conversational voice systems
- Fine-tuning, distillation, or other model-customization techniques.
- Building and maintaining LLM evaluation frameworks and observability tooling.
- Prior experience in healthcare, fintech, insurance, or another regulated, high-stakes domain.
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards and concepts.
- Startup experience
Why StitchFin
We're early, we're moving fast, and we're going after one of the biggest, most complex industries. We're building the AI that takes that burden on, so providers get paid for the care they deliver and patients get the care they need without the financial chaos.
- Be part of a mission-driven team redefining how healthcare operates.
- You’ll get to on the hardest problems in healthcare.
