Head of Commercial Development | Commercial Strategy & Market Access
Job Description
A fast-growing diagnostics startup is seeking an experienced Head of Commercial Development to shape and execute the commercial strategy for a breakthrough point-of-care diagnostic platform. This strategic leadership role combines commercial planning with hands-on execution and will play a critical part in building the commercial foundation of a technology designed to accelerate life-saving clinical decisions.
In this role, you will work closely with the CEO and cross-functional teams to define market strategy, establish reimbursement pathways, build the value proposition, develop pricing strategies, and support early go-to-market activities. You will also manage external consultants and partnerships while helping position the company for growth across key international markets, including the UK, Germany, and the US.
Essential Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree required
· 5+ years of experience in diagnostics, medtech, or life sciences commercialization
· Experience in market strategy, commercial development, or related commercial roles
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate insights into actionable commercial strategies
· Experience identifying and assessing market opportunities through market research and stakeholder engagement
· Ability to build and maintain relationships with clinical Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)
· Experience developing commercial value propositions and supporting strategic partnerships
· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
· Experience operating in a hands-on, execution-focused environment typical of early-stage companies
· Ability to work cross-functionally with leadership, R&D, and external stakeholders
· Experience supporting go-to-market planning, launch preparation, and commercial execution
· Ability to develop commercial tools, processes, KPIs, and supporting materials
· Experience preparing presentations, investor materials, market assessments, and commercial business cases
Preferred Requirements
· Advanced degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related field
· Experience with reimbursement, market access, health economics, or payer engagement
· Experience managing external consultants supporting reimbursement, coding, or market access activities
· Experience developing health economic evidence, value dossiers, and cost-effectiveness models
· Experience negotiating pricing with customers
· Existing network or commercial experience within the UK, Germany, or US healthcare markets
· Experience establishing partnerships with pharmaceutical companies or strategic healthcare partners
· Ability to contribute to brand positioning, messaging, and foundational marketing activities
· Experience supporting grant applications and revenue forecasting activities
· Strong understanding of value-based pricing methodologies
· Experience working within high-growth startup or scale-up environments
