Head of Department (HOD) – CAD

OroCraft Jewellery is establishing India's first dedicated pure gold jewellery manufacturing house, positioning pure gold as a new category in the Indian market. We are seeking a visionary CAD HOD specializing in plain gold jewellery to build and lead our design-to-manufacturing pipeline from the ground up. You will transform creative concepts into production-ready, weight-optimized 3D models, combining artistic precision with deep knowledge of Indian manufacturing constraints.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Setup
- Build the CAD department infrastructure, including software sourcing and hardware setup
- Establish standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for file naming, version control, and shrinkage allowances
- Lead, mentor, and scale a team of junior CAD designers
Plain Gold Product Development
- Convert 2D sketches into flawless 3D CAD models using Matrix, Rhino, or JewelCAD
- Master plain gold weight management to meet precise commercial target weights
- Optimize metal thickness for stamping, casting, laser cutting, CNC, and other finishes
- Design and research complex interlocking mechanisms, hinges, links, and locks for necklaces and bangles
Manufacturing & CAM Integration
- Calibrate models for regional casting shrinkage
- Prepare files perfectly for 3D printing (CAM) machines
- Collaborate directly with the casting, CNC, and master-making teams to resolve porosity and filling issues
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Mastery of Rhino and Matrix
- Expert understanding of CNC and plain gold manufacturing (casting, stamping, handmade fusion)
- Strong calculations for metal volume, specific gravity, and karat weight conversions
Experience
- 5 to 7 years in jewellery CAD, with at least 3 years focused on plain gold
- A collaborative, hands-on approach, with the flexibility to take on responsibilities beyond the defined role
