Forward Deployed Engineer
Location: New York, NY
Workplace: On-site
Employment Type: Full-time
This role is posted on behalf of the following client: A venture-backed, tech-enabled property management platform acquiring and modernizing property management companies nationwide. The company has raised approximately $30M, is already a top-50 player in its category, and has a clear M&A path toward becoming a top-10 platform.
**Role Overview
**This is the first Forward Deployed Engineer hire on the platform. This role will work on-site with acquired portfolio companies to identify high-impact manual workflows such as month-end reconciliation, data re-entry, and vendor management, then replace them with production software including AI agents, API integrations, scripts, and internal tools that operators rely on daily.
What You'll Do
- Shadow operators at portfolio companies to map high-value manual workflows and size business impact.
- Build and ship production automations, including AI agents, API integrations, internal tools, and scripts used daily by operators.
- Integrate across fragmented, legacy property management systems, including 20-40 year-old platforms, hostile APIs, inconsistent data, spreadsheets, PDFs, and multi-source data pipelines.
- Design replicable solutions that scale across multiple portfolio companies rather than one-off fixes.
- Partner with the Head of Engineering and CEO to prioritize the automation roadmap and demonstrate AI-forward value to investors.
Who You Are
- 3-6 years of experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, solutions engineer, or founding engineer, with end-to-end ownership of workflow automation.
- Strong production Python proficiency; this role requires hands-on software engineering beyond no-code tools or prototype-only development.
- Experience integrating with legacy or messy systems such as old ERPs, hostile APIs, spreadsheets, PDFs, and fragmented operational data sources.
- Experience building and deploying AI agents or LLM-powered automations in production, not just research or prototyping environments.
- Startup experience required; experience at a recognizable technology company such as Palantir, Retool, Rippling, or similar is preferred.
- Comfortable working on-site in New York, NY, with approximately 5 days per month of travel to portfolio sites such as San Diego, Atlanta, or similar locations.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future; this role does not offer visa sponsorship.
**Compensation
**Salary: $175,000 - $225,000 per year
Equity: Competitive equity
