AI Engineer Intern

SOS 42 - the Adulting app is an AI-powered study companion and guide designed to help students plan, organize, and navigate key life decisions with confidence. Powered by advanced large language models, 42 helps users with tasks ranging from waking up on time and organizing to-dos, to preparing college applications, studying for exams, and learning from online content.

Role Description : As an AI Engineer Intern at SOS 42, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, secure back-end services that power SOS 42. You will develop and optimize APIs, integrate AI/LLM-based services, manage data storage and retrieval, and ensure high availability and performance of core features such as agentic workflows, conversational agents and retrieval pipelines. You will collaborate closely with front-end and product teams to translate user requirements into robust back-end implementations, write clean and testable code, and contribute to code reviews and architecture decisions. You will also monitor and improve system reliability, implement observability and logging, and participate in continuous deployment and automation workflows. This is a full-time, remote role.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with FastAPI and AI IDEs building RESTful APIs and working with databases.
• Deep understanding of LLM and RAG capabilities and strong problem solving skills leveraging AI tools (should be good at asking the right questions and deep diving into concepts)
• Comfortable with DevOps ( Azure, Docker, CI/CD pipelines) and implementing security, scalability, and performance best practices.
• Strong debugging, testing, and documentation habits, with the ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced, product-focused environment.
• Bachelor’s degree (3rd/4th year) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience;
• Only apply if you have prior experience building/working on AI projects and have not applied for a role at SOS 42 in the last 6 months.
