About The Role

The Senior Lead AI Engineer at Capital One plays a pivotal role in advancing the company's AI and machine learning initiatives. This position involves designing, developing, and deploying scalable AI systems that revolutionize how banking services are delivered. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers, to create innovative AI-powered products that improve customer interactions and operational workflows. Your expertise will contribute to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems, ensuring they are responsible, scalable, and aligned with business goals. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with extensive experience in AI and machine learning. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, along with at least 6 years of relevant experience, is required. Alternatively, candidates with a Master's degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience will also be considered. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential, with at least 6 years of hands-on experience. Preferred qualifications include 7 or more years of deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. Demonstrated leadership in developing complex AI systems, mentoring engineering teams, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders will be advantageous. A passion for staying current with AI research and applying innovative techniques in production environments is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver AI-powered products that enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency.
Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, and observability.
Leverage a broad stack of open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch to build robust AI solutions.
Invent and implement state-of-the-art optimization techniques to improve the performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, and latency of large-scale AI systems.
Contribute to the technical vision and strategic roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One, ensuring alignment with business objectives and responsible AI practices.
Evaluate and incorporate emerging AI research and tools to maintain the company's competitive edge in AI innovation.
Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
