As an AI Engineer, you will work within an innovative organization in North Holland. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and operationalizing advanced AI solutions, with a strong focus on conversational AI, LLM integrations, and autonomous agent-based systems. You will collaborate closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, and business stakeholders to build scalable AI platforms and intelligent digital assistants that have a direct impact on the customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain AI-driven backend services and intelligent agentic systems

• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) into production environments

• Develop conversational AI solutions, digital assistants, and multi-agent architectures

• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and vector database architectures

• Build orchestration and reasoning frameworks for autonomous AI agents

• Develop reliable APIs, integrations, and data flows with existing enterprise applications

• Take ownership of the entire lifecycle from design and development to deployment and operations

• Collaborate with product teams, engineers, and stakeholders to successfully deliver innovative AI solutions

• Contribute to both AI-driven initiatives and traditional backend services within a modern cloud environment

• Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability of systems in a complex enterprise environment

Profile

As an AI Engineer, you combine strong software engineering capabilities with deep expertise in generative AI, agentic architectures, and production-grade systems. You have a proven track record of delivering AI solutions that go beyond standard AI assistants and are capable of providing technical leadership in architecture, design decisions, and implementation. You are analytical, pragmatic, and thrive in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Requirements

• Proven professional experience with AI solutions; AI-related projects must be clearly demonstrated on the CV

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Backend Engineer and/or AI Engineer

• Experience integrating LLM capabilities into production environments

• Experience with agent-based systems, orchestration frameworks, and multi-agent architectures

• Knowledge of LangChain, RAG solutions, and vector databases

• Experience with Python for AI and LLM-related applications

• Hands-on experience with Kotlin and/or Java backend development

• Experience with Spring Boot and microservices architectures

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP

• Experience building APIs, integrations, and backend services

• Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases

• DevOps mindset with experience in CI/CD, deployments, and end-to-end service ownership

• Experience working in Agile environments and multidisciplinary product teams

• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide technical leadership

Nice to Have

• Experience with conversational AI platforms and virtual avatars

• Knowledge of advanced prompting techniques, reasoning workflows, and AI orchestration

• Experience with vector search solutions and knowledge retrieval systems

• Experience with observability, monitoring, and evaluation of AI systems

• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot and modern AI developer tooling

• Experience within retail, e-commerce, or other customer-facing digital environments
