About The Role

We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join our team in Essen, Ruhr. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing agentic AI solutions that drive digital transformation within our organization. Your primary responsibilities will include designing proof-of-concept prototypes and transforming them into scalable, secure, and robust products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including IT specialists and domain experts, to evaluate emerging AI technologies and integrate them into our enterprise architecture. Building and maintaining an extensive AI portfolio, including models, pipelines, and reusable components, will be a key part of your work. Additionally, you'll serve as a technical advisor, supporting project teams and product owners in implementing innovative AI solutions while ensuring compliance with security, legal, and governance standards, particularly within the context of the EU AI Act. Active participation in knowledge sharing, internal demonstrations, and community engagement will also be expected, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a completed degree in computer science, business informatics, or a comparable qualification. Practical experience in AI and machine learning is essential, with demonstrated project or implementation expertise in building large language model (LLM)-based systems. Hands-on experience with current open-source AI tools and frameworks, as well as agentic AI platforms such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Claude ecosystem, or n8n, is highly valued. Candidates should have a solid understanding of agent-builder tools and low-code/no-code platforms used for automating business processes. A structured, hands-on approach combined with enthusiasm for exploring new technologies is crucial. Strong communication skills in German and good proficiency in English are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and share knowledge effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement proof-of-concept and production-ready agentic AI solutions in close collaboration with business units and IT teams.
  • Assess modern AI technologies, frameworks, and architectures for suitability in enterprise applications.
  • Build and continuously expand an enterprise-wide AI portfolio, including technologies, models, and pipelines.
  • Create reusable technical AI components and integrate them into a central capability library for broader use.
  • Act as a technical sparring partner for product owners, business units, and project teams, providing expert guidance on AI implementation.
  • Support the transition of prototypes into scalable, secure, and robust operational solutions.
  • Ensure all AI developments adhere to security, compliance, and governance standards, especially within the scope of the EU AI Act.
  • Participate actively in knowledge transfer activities, internal demos, and community formats to promote best practices and continuous learning.
