About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AI Engineer to join our dynamic Data Science team at ALPAS GmbH. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and integrating machine learning models and AI architectures to automate our core product—specifically, the supplier search process. Your expertise will help achieve stellar quality automation, significantly reducing manual effort and increasing decision accuracy. You will lead initiatives to enhance model inference efficiency, implement auto-retraining systems, and ensure seamless integration with our platform. Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a strong background in machine learning, AI, and software engineering, with 4-6 years of relevant experience. We value a willingness to learn and adapt over strict adherence to specific skills. Essential qualifications include proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and related ML frameworks, along with experience in MLOps tools such as MLFlow, KubeFlow, or KServe. Familiarity with cloud platforms like GCP (VertexAI, CloudRun, CloudFunctions), Azure AI, or similar is advantageous. Candidates should have hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), API development (FastAPI), and CI/CD pipelines. Soft skills such as project ownership, creative problem-solving, strategic thinking, effective communication, and teamwork are critical. Fluency in English (C1 level) is required. Nice-to-have skills include NLP expertise, large language models, Kubernetes, Terraform, and a solid understanding of software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

Lead and support the team in automating decision-making processes during supplier search, ensuring AI and agentic architectures perform reliably from training to inference.
Develop scalable AI agents utilizing Langgraph and NLP pipelines, and implement RAG systems with vector databases.
Design and implement end-to-end AI solutions with a focus on system design thinking, ensuring seamless integration into the ALPAS platform.
Apply agentic workflow patterns and develop MLOps pipelines to streamline model deployment, monitoring, and retraining.
Optimize models for performance and inference efficiency, maintaining high standards with less than 1% failure rates for search AI agents.
Maintain and improve code quality, adopting best practices in software development and version control.
Train, evaluate, and fine-tune NLP models using PyTorch, incorporating the latest AI research developments.
Benchmark AI solutions to ensure optimal performance and reliability across different scenarios.
Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Build and maintain monitoring pipelines for all AI agents at scale, ensuring operational stability and cost control.
Collaborate with stakeholders to meet quality targets and continuously improve AI solutions based on feedback and data insights.
